Profile

Ngar-Fun LIU is a Hong Kong born Chinese educated in Hong Kong and England.  She enjoys studying and has fulfilled one of her childhood dreams: completing five degrees in Sociology, Urban Design, Education, Applied Linguistics and Law.

She taught English at secondary and university levels in Spain, England and Hong Kong in the first half of her career.  With the aid of two scholarships, she obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in Applied Linguistics in the latter half of her career.  Some of her publications deal with intercultural issues in education, learning and assessment.

After completing a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, she was accredited as a mediator by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).  Since 2010, she has practiced as a mediator and mediation coach.  She has also combined her dispute resolution and language skills to provide training in intercultural communication, conflict management and public speaking.

She has volunteered for a number of organizations and has been the Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres (HKFWC), a 30-year-old independent NGO that has acquired Special Consultative Status from the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.  She enjoys travelling that takes her slightly out of her comfort zone and has journeyed to more than 40 countries.
